2. Green Veins

Leaves with green veins are considered the "classic" form of the kratom leaf. The veins are almost indistinguishable from the rest of the leaf tissue, but often appear a slightly lighter or more intense green. Green veins often occur in mid-ripe leaves.

3. White Veins

White-veined kratom leaves have a significantly lighter midrib, which can sometimes have an almost silvery or yellowish sheen. These leaves usually come from younger trees or from specific altitudes and microclimates where the vein coloration is more pronounced.

What causes the color variation?

The exact cause of leaf vein coloration has not been conclusively scientifically clarified. It is suspected that genetic factors play a role, as do external influences: soil conditions, sunlight, humidity, and altitude could influence the appearance of leaf veins. The age of the leaves also appears to be a decisive factor.

Further variants and regional differences

In addition to the three main species, there are also hybrids and regional variants in which the veins exhibit intermediate colors—for example, brownish or purple. In some growing regions, these are designated as separate types, even though they are not considered botanically distinct varieties. The variety of vein colors thus also reflects the ecological range of natural kratom occurrences.
